Five Ways to Propose for Marriage

Marriage is a big step forward in life. And, a marriage proposal is something that is to be cherished for a lifetime. Read how these five couples proposed to their respective partners to ask their hand for marriage.

The Kayak Proposal

When Marialuisa Curran’s then boyfriend (now husband) Blake took her on a surprise island scavenger, little did she know that her boyfriend would surprise her with a wedding proposal and they would spend the rest of their lives together as husband and wife. Find below, Marialuisa’s story in her own words.

My husband took me for a surprise island scavenger hunt on my 23rd Birthday.

He surprised me with kayaks. We kayaked to an island and he gave me a map with clues after we had a nice picnic. After following each clue on the map to different parts of an island, I ended at one location where I was supposed to dig.

I thought I would find a box for a gift or something hooky since my husband (boyfriend at the time) was such a jokster. I started to dig and I found a cement block… I continued digging and saw there was wooden lettering on the cement block. As I moved all the sand out of the way, it read, “At this spot, Blake proposed to Marialuisa, his first love, true love and soulmate forever, June 2007.”

I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I looked over and as the sun was setting behind him, Blake held out a beautiful (nicely sized) diamond engagement ring. He said, “Marialuisa, I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?” The stone was actually sized 17×21 (his birthday and mine).   Needless to say, I was a little nervous kayaking back knowing the wonderful gift the boat carried.

Wedding Photographers Get Hitched

Joe and I are wedding photographers in Knoxville, Tennesse and our company is JoPhoto. Joe took me to the beach for a vacation last July. The first night we were there, he asked me if I wanted to go walking on the beach. He said, the moon was really bright, and he wanted to take some pictures. As we were walking down the beach, he told me he had a surprise for me. When I opened the gift, it was a vintage Polaroid camera. I had been wanting one for a long time, so I was really excited! He said for me to take a picture of us, so I did. When it developed, the top of the picture said “Will you marry me?” Then, I turned around, and he proposed! Of course, I said YES! We were engaged for 9 months and got married on April 10, 2011.

The Ithaca Proposal

A friend of mine asked a group of about 100 people to encircle him and his girlfriend on the Ithaca Commons and all shout “Susan, will you marry me?” as he knelt before her.

Proposal on a roller coaster

My boyfriend popped the question at the tippee-top of the tallest roller coaster at Busch Gardens. He had safety-pinned the ring to the inside of his cargo shorts and made a slip knot so it would come off easily. He proposed just before the coaster dropped. It was incredible and memorable and certainly unique!

I Proposed to My Husband

We both had moved to Colorado Springs after being laid off at our old company. My husband and I worked together and in the beginning he was my boss. One night, I just had a really tough time at the new job I was working and needed to take a load off. I forgot how in higher elevation that you feel more tipsy.

I had a great night and apparently popped the question while my then boyfriend was driving his truck. The next morning when he asked if I remembered what happened, I played it off like I didn’t remember (I kind of remembered something, but thought it was a dream). I told him no and that’s when he said “if you do end up remembering, my answer is yes.” And suddenly I perked up and said yes as well.
