How to Look Young?

A Baby Face Lady’s True Story

Have you ever been told you look old for your age? Or maybe you have received comments about looking too stressed or haggard that it’s already affecting your overall demeanor? A lot of people have this problem. I, however, experience being told the opposite.

Since I was a teenager, I have always been told that I look younger than my real age. In my teens, I found that to be a disadvantage because I wanted to be seen as a mature young lady who is poised, confident and sure of herself instead of looking like a clueless and naïve kid. But now that I’m 29, I find this to be a real advantage because I enjoy it when people tell me I look around 5-6 years younger than my actual age. If I’m lucky and I still have this youthful streak for a few more years, imagine how good it would feel to be told that I just look like I’m 30 when I’m already around 35-40 years old!

My Secret To Looking Young

No, I didn’t discover the fountain of youth or anything like that. I don’t have a genie or a fairy godmother who granted a “forever young” wish for me. I read in an online article once that people who have round faces tend to look younger than their more oval-faced colleagues. If that’s the basis, then my round face would be a major factor to my youthful appearance. In the same article, youthful form is also attributed to biological reasons such as genes. While these claims may bear some truth, I do believe that this has a lot more to do with other factors like overall attitude and lifestyle. Here’s a peak into my lifestyle which may be the reason for my seemingly youthful glow:

1.  Enough water consumption daily.

I am a voracious water drinker. I try to consume the required amount of water everyday which is around eight glasses. I don’t drink too much soda, carbonated drinks, or even coffee. Yes, carbonated drinks quench my thirst but only for a brief period of time. I still find myself craving for ice-cold water. Water is very important for the body and helps keep us hydrated and helps provide natural moisture to the face, thereby giving us a greater chance to look younger and healthier.

2. Use of mild facial products

I don’t use too many facial products except Cetaphil as cleanser and moisturizer. I don’t really favor any brand of lotion but I do use them to moisturize the rest of my body. I try to limit the use of make-up. If I do wear some, I see to it that I wash them off before I sleep at night. Face powder, mineral blush or tint and lip gloss are my staple cosmetics.

3. A positive and hopeful attitude

I try my best to be happy always and look at the positive side of everything. It’s not easy so I look for ways to keep myself sane like read books, talk to my loved ones, and pursue hobbies. Problems and trials surely come along everyone’s way but we should never let this get the best of us. We must choose to be happy no matter what the consequences and work towards the achievement of our goals, so we can have something to be happy about.

4. A desire to be of service to God and my fellowmen

I have a firm faith in the love of God and the blessings He gives me through my family, friends, and loved ones. Thus, I do my best to always be of service to Him and my neighbors. This surely brings a smile to my face which brings out the positive and youthful glow in me.

So there you have it. My personal ingredients in brewing a “youth potion.” I hope this is helpful. I do believe that age is just a number and that we don’t have to be too concerned about not looking old enough or looking too old for our age. What’s important is that we make the most out of life, no matter how young or old we are. If we learn to embrace who we are, we would never have to agonize over our age and appearance and instead would start being grateful for everything that we have.
